Editorial Services
Project Management
As managing editor of Nat Geo Kids Books, I oversee the production of an annual slate of 30–35 frontlist titles. I assist editors in crafting budgets that meet P&L benchmarks and setting realistic schedules that allow ample time for creativity. I’m able to manage projects from either a macro or micro perspective (or both!), depending on what the situation requires. Professionally, I’m in my happy place when I’m smoothing out wrinkles that arise during the development process and helping creatives navigate their way to the finish line—all while keeping our vendors and salespeople happy!
Developmental Editing
When editing, I bring a cultivated ear for language, deep and wide-ranging cultural knowledge, and respect for the author’s intent. I step in as a second reader from time to time and take pride in providing scientifically-grounded and culturally-sensitive feedback, informed by my experiences as a mother of two who keeps a close eye on the marketplace.
My special interests as a reader are children’s nonfiction; history from a global perspective; and personal narratives by Asian, Asian American, and immigrant voices.
Copyediting & Proofreading
I have a passion for getting into the weeds when it comes to language, and then digging myself back out with the help of Merriam-Webster, The Chicago Manual of Style, and any style guides that are available to me. I’m discerning about how much work I take on—my goal is to give each project the attention, care, and contemplation that it deserves. I’ve also been known to come in at the eleventh hour with a reputation-saving fact-check!
